美国人口老龄化严重，护理人员紧缺，自2000年以来，65岁以上人口就一直处于与稳步增长状态。数据显示，每年约有50万人加入“65岁+大家庭”。根据美国统计局预测：2030年，美国65岁以上老人将占总人口的20%左右。美国护士年均缺口达12万，预计到2020年美国护士的短缺量将超过50万人。美国过去十年为了解决护士荒问题，一直都在通过移民政策增加移民护士的配额，加速的引进外籍的护士。几年前，美国国会就曾经修改法律，每年增加5万人的移民护士的配额，目前在美国从事护理工作的印度人、菲律宾人、香港人、台湾人很多，他们的主要优势是英语较好。近年来更多的医疗护理机构将眼光投向中国大陆，中国护士的优势在于基本上都是通过专业的护理学校的训练，业务和技术熟练，但明显的短板是英语程度相对差，而护理工作如果无法与病人的和老人有效沟通，显然就无法胜任。

什么是CNA？

CNA 全称是Certified Nursing Assistant，当于中国医院里的护理员，培训内容包括：怎样测量病人生命体征，初浅的一些解剖，生理，感染，营养的理论。工作主要为照顾患者的个人生活和提供住院护理，比如洗澡、更换床单、测量生命体征、协助护士做简单的伤口包扎等。美国助理护士需要通过专业培训，包括理论课程和临床实践以及考试获得证书，在注册护士的指导下进行工作。有些医院的CNA还兼职一些秘书的功能，帮忙在电脑上输入实验室ORDER，接接电话，发发传真等。

Q1. How much does the state certification exam cost?

A1. The state certification exam in Virginia has 2 parts; a written exam and skills. The cost to take both parts together for first-time testers is $94. You will pay this when you register online using a credit card. This fee does NOT go to Astar.

Q2. How do I register for the NNAAP exam? A2. Upon completion of the program, Astar will send Pearson Vue a copy of your CNA certificate for approval to test. After this part is approved, you will get an email from Pearson Vue that will tell you what steps to follow to create your online account and finish registration.

Q3. Do I need a social security number to take the NNAAP exam?

A3. No, a social security number is not needed totake the test. You will need to bring 2forms of ID on test day though.

Q4. How do I register for the state exam?

A4. After you finish the CNA program, Astar will upload your certificate to get approval for you to take the test. Once Pearson Vue has approved you to take the test, you will get an email from them with instructions to followon how to create an online account and register for the exam. Ask an Astar staff member if you need help with these instructions.

Q5. What happens if I do not pass the state certification exam?

A5.Students can retake either or both parts of the state certification test ifthey do not pass. The cost to retakeonly the written part is $25 and the cost to retake only the skills part is$69.

Q6. How long does it take to complete the NNAAP Exam?

A6. Both the written and skills portions of the NNAAP exam will be completed in one day. The written part is 70 questions. Generally, the hours are 8AM – 6PM on a Thursday but these times can sometimes vary depending on the test site. You will be given the details of test day when you register but prepare to be there for the whole day.

Q9. How often do I need to renew my CNA license? What do I need to do to renew this?

A9. CNA licenses must be renewed annually. The fee is $30 and this can be done online. If you do not renew annually,you will have to pay a reinstatement fee of $30 when you decide to work as a CNA again. Q10. How can employers tell I am a CNA in Virginia?

A10. Employers can search the online registry to see if you are a qualified CNA. The website to search the registry is found here: https://dhp.virginiainteractive.org/Lookup/Index

Q11. How do I transfer my CNA license to Virginia from another state?

A11. To start an application for endorsement and transfer your license from another state to Virginia, you will apply online here: https://www.license.dhp.virginia.gov/apply/

You can not transfer a license that is not in good standing or has expired. There is currently no fee to transfer your license to VA.
